Leopold Barnes hails from Bath, St Thomas, Jamaica. He received his early education at Bath Primary School, St Elizabeth Technical and later, at the College of Arts, Science and Technology (now The University of Technology) where he studied engineering. Recognising his artistic inclination in 1976 he attended the Edna Manley School for Visual Arts.
